Facts
The client wasn’t managing his life well. He used e-TAG regularly but unfortunately he did not pay the fees. One $10 trip turned into a $300 trip after Court penalty fees had been added. The client was in a lot of trouble, as he had no way to repay the $90,000 that he now owed and was at real risk of a prison term.
Result
The client was by now homeless and in severe financial difficulty. He also had a back injury that impacted on his ability to work. Taking these matters into account the Magistrate discharged two-thirds of the amount owing and put the client on a payment plan at the rate of $100 a month. A prison term was avoided.
